What’s a Mommy Makeover?

A mommy makeover is a cosmetic surgical procedure. Customized for each patient, these procedures combine several cosmetic surgeries to improve the specific areas of a woman's body affected by pregnancy or aging. Mommy makeover surgical areas typically include the breasts, abdomen, hips, and thighs, but are customized for each patient’s goals and desired finished look.

Board-certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Scott Rotatori consults with hundreds of women to restore their body to a state they love every year. With over 30 years of experience, training, and education, Dr. Rotatori understands that every woman’s body is different and therefore able to produce a customized mommy makeover suiting their body’s specific cosmetic needs.

Taking Time for You

considering a mommy makeover

It can be a little daunting to think about taking time out of your busy schedule to recover from plastic surgery. Our patients often express they feel it’s too “selfish” to focus on their appearance and dedicating a few weeks of recovery time to healing after their procedures. After undergoing their Mommy Makeover surgery, however, their perspective typically changes.

Many of our mommy makeover patients report feeling better about themselves than they have in ages– even better than they had thought possible. “Energized,” “rejuvenated,” and “ecstatic” are just some of the frequently used words our mommy makeover patients describe their experience and feelings with. Look younger, feel more confident, and having a more positive outlook are all symptoms common among our mommy makeover patients. Some of our patients even express they’re ultimately able to give and do more for their families after taking mommy makeover time for themselves.

The Mommy Makeover Process

Before Surgery

Mommy makeovers are tailored to the desires and goals of each patient.

Your mommy makeover starts with a consultation with Dr. Rotatori to review your goals, discuss your options, schedule your procedures, and discuss your healing and follow-up plan to achieve your best results.

During Surgery

The surgical techniques used during a mommy makeover vary based on the condition of each of the body parts the patient wishes to improve.

For example, common breast issues include sagging, loose skin, and/or a loss of volume. Surgeries that can address these issues include breast reduction, breast augmentation, and/or a breast lift. For many, a combination of these techniques creates a youthful, beautiful post-pregnancy breast appearance. The most common example is a breast augmentation with a lift.

For the lower body, it is normal to see loose skin, surface irregularities such as stretch marks, or persistent exercise-resistant pockets of fat. These trouble areas can be addressed with surgical solutions such as liposuction combined with excess skin removal or ‘lifting’ the remaining skin to a new position.

A mommy makeover typically covers a sizeable area of the body. It is considered an invasive surgery and in many cases will require an overnight stay at the surgery center. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility and can take 3 hours or longer to complete.

Results

Results typically allow patients to enjoy a body that is tighter, smoother and sexier. Most women find the road to recovery to be a slow process. Because walking upright will be difficult in the first several weeks, patients are recommended to take it slow, especially early on in their early recovery phase.

Depending on what was addressed during surgery, it could take between 6 months to a full year for the final results to appear. With that being said, most patients can go back to a normal routine in an average of 3 weeks; however, exercise is discouraged until at least 6-8 weeks after surgery.
